In our previous blog, we saw deployment considerations for Databases on EC2 instance vs RDS. In this blog, we will see how Nimesa can be used to protect your RDS databases as well as manage cost for RDS instance used for non-production workloads
About RDS:
Amazon RDS helps you to set up, operate and scale your databases in a few clicks. RDS frees you from a lot of time consuming tasks like provisioning disks, upgrades, patching and backup of databases. Amazon RDS is available for MySQL, PostgreSQL, MariaDB, ORACLE, SQL Server and Amazons Aurora databases.
Snapshot RDS instance using Nimesa:
AWS allows keeping Automatic Snapshots of RDS instance for a maximum of 35 days. When there is a requirement to keep the Snapshots for longer duration manual snapshots of the RDS instance needs to be taken.
- Nimesa helps in periodically taking a manual snapshot of RDS instances and allows you to retain more than 35 days. Nimesa enables you to recover the RDS instance in a few clicks in case of deletion
Note:- Amazon has a limit of 100 manual snapshots per region. When there are multiple databases and you wanted to retain for a longer duration contact AWS
- Nimesa automates moving the manual snapshots to different regions. This will help in recovering the RDS instance in few clicks in different regions
- Nimesa provides flexible policy based backup schedule and retention. It helps you to have an aggressive backup schedule based on the RPO SLAs
RDS Instance Discovery:-
User needs to register hist AWS account with Nimesa platform. Nimesa automatically discovers EC2 instances, RDS instances, and EBS volumes in the registered account.
RDS Instance Backup:-
Create a Backup group based on Tags or by selecting the individual instance.
List the backups for the backup group for the completed backups.
Restore the RDS instance in case of deletion or for test and dev workloads.
Nimesa for Cost Management:
AWS RDS allows you to create database instances quickly for development and testing activity and you pay only for the duration you use. To manage cost users take a manual snapshot and recreate the RDS instance when required. Nimesa helps you to start and Stop the RDS instances when not required in a single click as well as automate the Starting and Stopping the RDS instances during non-business hours.
Nimesa enables user to take manual snapshot of RDS instances. RDS instances can be deleted when not required, Nimesa helps you to restore the deleted RDS instances in few clicks. The cost of snapshots cheaper than the storage cost and you pay only for the utilized storage.
About Nimesa
